Antivirus Software – A Mandatory Tool for Computers
Computer, the most powerful machine invented by human brain faces the most dreaded experience when it is attacked by a virus. Today most computer manufacturers provide antivirus software as a standard product on purchase of the computer. If not, it may be paid for and installed. It is recommended to spend in an antivirus package as having no protection on your machine could result in data lost or system malfunction. There are several viruses which are further grouped under boot sector virus, multipartite virus, network virus, e-mail virus, parasitic virus, macro virus and latest ones are revealed everyday. Besides these viruses your computer can be attacked by other malicious software like Trojan horse, Worms and Spyware.

There are two techniques used by antivirus software. The first is based on signature files. After scanning for viruses based on the virus report a signature file is created which is added to the database of the antivirus software for identifying and destroying the viruses. The second way of identifying viruses is based on the activity of a computer. This method is also preferred as it can detect viruses which are not listed in the virus database.
