What Can A Virus And Antivirus Software Do?

Computer is an essential part of our life as it not only stores precious data and information but also controls communication, finances, medical on which a modern life depends. A computer virus is probably enough to make your trusty system under par and making you annoyed if your data is lost forever. The most common source of virus is from internet entering your computer system deleting your data, files, other programs without your permission. The biggest mistake one can make is not installing an antivirus program. Good antivirus software is advised for frequent internet users if they do not want to face this wicked problem.  

After the antivirus scanned for viruses it is either quarantined or destroyed. A virus may be old or new depending on the virus definitions is regularly updated or not. Updating of virus definitions depend on different antivirus manufacturer whether this facility is provided in the antivirus software or not. Today hi end antivirus software is available according to individual needs. Use of only those antivirus software is appreciated which can detect the most up-to-date virus threats and has the ability to update the dictionary of these virus threats as new virus definitions are not acknowledged by the existing antivirus software installed in the computer system. When a virus-infected file is found, it can be either be repaired or removed so that it does not affect other files on the system. If a new viral code is found it can be sent to virus analysis centers to identify and update the virus definition accordingly.  

Virus detection basically includes four major methods which are practiced by almost all highly developed antivirus software. The very first step is scanning files and folders after which integrity checking is done in deep which is followed by interception and heuristic checking. Though scanning does not deal with the new viruses but this method is commonly used along with interception method by almost all antivirus software.  The other two options are lesser used as they are available in top end antivirus software. Backup of files is suggested time to time as viruses often damages the files and even the antivirus cannot restore them.
